Dan Mills is a professional clarinet and saxophone performer and teacher living in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is a substitute clarinetist with the Greeley Philharmonic and Fort Collins & Cheyenne Symphonies. He has been teaching clarinet for 8 years, including online teaching via Wyzant and Zoom since 2019, when he began teaching saxophone, as well.
Previously, Dan earned his Master of Music in Clarinet Performance at CU Boulder, where he was a teaching assistant in the studio of Daniel Silver. Dan was responsible for teaching undergraduate clarinet students, and received weekly teaching feedback and pedagogy training from Professor Silver. Dan completed a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he studied with Jon Manasse with additional instruction from Kenneth Grant. At Eastman, Dan performed with the world-famous Eastman Wind Ensemble, doubling on contrabass, bass, and eb clarinet. Dan can be heard on the recent EWE recording "Images" Along with the clarinet doubling Dan did at Eastman, he also developed his saxophone skills in private lessons with undergraduate and graduate saxophone students from the Eastman Saxophone Project, a group which performs entirely from memory without a conductor. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Dan played in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra for 3 years, where he held the Kemper Endowed Principal Clarinet Chair. Dan attended the Interlochen Arts Camp for 3 summers. Dan also enjoys drawing, biking, and exploring the outdoors in Colorado. |
